Safe Exiting During Summer Construction

I’m sure you have all noticed that the summer construction season is in full swing already here at MCC.  This has resulted in the closing of some entrances and exits to the college, therefore forcing us all to change parts of our normal routes. I am sure that many of you have gone to the second floor of building one only to rediscover that you cannot walk down the ramp!

This is important because when it comes to an emergency, we tend to fall back on old habits. (Most people tend to exit from the same entrance that they use to get into a building.)  Everyone should take a few minutes and think about what exits they would use right now if the fire alarms were to go off. Those of you working in building 7 and 6 may have utilized the building one exit. You will now find it easier to exit from the building 8 or 5 front entrances.

Similarly, those of you who come on to campus from the campus center side have also been facing a new obstacle to your morning routine.  Because of the widening of the center road loop, much of the courtyard by building 19 is blocked off.  Those located in buildings 2 and 3 should consider utilizing the exits towards the north side of campus (towards the residence halls).   Those located in building 9 and 10 will want to utilize exits towards the south side of the building.

While this sounds a bit complicated, it will be much easier after everyone has had a bit of practice navigating the summer construction.  We will be practicing having everyone exit the campus shortly (hint, hint), so take a few minutes to familiarize yourself with the summer construction and determine where the nearest exits are.
