CyberSecurity Advisory - What if you are receiving phishing emails?

Technology Services continues to observe a higher-than-normal number of phishing emails targeting MCC faculty and staff. What should you do if you receive one? Promptly delete it.

Recent attempts include many of the following features:

  • "From" field contains a name that does not match the email address it was sent from
  • Often reference an invoice or other accounting item
  • Include an unsolicited link that you are asked to click
  • Include a "signature" that contains an MCC staff member's name or email address.

As always, we strongly suggest that you treat any unexpected message as highly suspicious, especially if it includes an unknown link.

In general, these phishing campaigns use compromised computer systems across the globe to generate email messages that attempt to convince unwitting users to click malicious links and potentially divulge account credentials. Don't fall for it.

Please complete your Cybersecurity Awareness Training if you have not already, so that you will know how to protect yourself and MCC.
