MCC Stand Against Racism 2013

For the second year in a row, MCC faculty and students have taken a “Stand Against Racism”.  The Damon City Campus event was held on Thursday, April 25th at 11:30 a.m. and included about 200 faculty, staff, and students for a brief talk and symbolic moment of silence.

On Friday, April 26th, faculty led a presentation and art activity with approximately 50 faculty, staff, and students in the Warshof Conference Center, Flynn Campus Center -- Monroe A at the Brighton campus.

Both campuses participated in the Race Card Project in which 6 word statements were written by participants, allowing them to speak to race in ways that were personal and meaningful.  Hundreds of statements will remain posted for the remainder of the semester.

Special thanks to faculty members Rory Butler, Natasha Christensen, Marcia Fugate, Dina Giovanelli, and Tokeya Graham for working to make this event a tremendous success. Thanks also to the Diversity Council for supporting this important college-wide initiative.
