Fall Foreign Film Festival

Enjoy watching films in another language at MCC’s Fall Foreign Film Fest. For three nights, take your pick of films from around the world, while enjoying some refreshments, a special presentation and the company of friends and classmates. The schedule is as follows:

Tuesday, October 28, in Monroe A: Under the Same Moon (Spanish). A woman from Mexico migrates to the United States illegally, in order to try to make a better life for her son. She doesn’t count on her son, who she left in Mexico, coming north, on his own, to find her.

Tuesday, October 28, in Monroe B: The Dinner Game (French). Practice your French insults as you sit through this bizarre game in which the dinner guests bring the most idiotic guest each can find.

Wednesday, October 29, in 8-200: Reprise (Norwegian). Two friends, both aspiring writers, write and submit manuscripts for publication. This is a look at how literary fame can bring obsessions and temptations, for which one might not necessarily be prepared.

Wednesday, October 29, 8-300: Black Book (Dutch, German). One Jewish woman in Holland, in an effort to survive, learns to play both sides during World War II—and both, then, turn against her. Based on true events from the end of World War II.

Thursday, October 30, Monroe A: The Kite Runner (Urdu, Russian). Years after fleeing the Taliban and immigrating to the United States, an Afghan man returns to his war-ravaged homeland to try to repay his debt to a childhood friend whose trust he betrayed. Based on the best-selling novel by Khaled Hosseini.

Thursday, October 30, Monroe B. The Sky is Falling (Italian). This film, set during World War II, is a look at the beauty of art and music despite the horrors of war, played out through the experiences of two young girls who are sent to live with their aunt after their parents are killed in a car crash.

The event begins at 6:00 pm, with refreshments. A short presentation at 6:30 will precede each film.

The Foreign Film Festival is co-sponsored by the ESOL/Foreign Languages Department and the Global Union.
