A Chance for Students to experience the Model United Nations

I am pleased to announce that The Global Union International Students
Association will once again be attending the Harvard University Model United
Nations Debating Conference in Boston, Massachusetts. This event has
historically been very rewarding for the students and has been one of the most
prestigious events for our college.

Since this event has gained such recognition, we have decided to offer eight
(8) students from the MCC community the opportunity to participate in this
year's event. The Global Union will pay for all their expenses,
(transportation, hotel accommodations, registration fees, per-diems). The
Harvard National Model United Nations (HNMUN) is the largest, oldest, and most
prestigious simulation of its kind. Each year brings together nearly 2,000
students and faculty advisors from colleges and universities across the globe
and provides them with a unique opportunity to experience the challenges of
international negotiation.

Delegates gain insight into the working of the United Nations by assuming the
roles of UN representatives and by actively participating in the resolution of
important global issues. Students will interact all weekend with hundreds of
other highly motivated college students and work together towards the common
goals of international awareness and consensus-building.

I need your help in identifying students in your class and with whom, you
interact with to encourage them to sign up to participate. The Conference
starts February 13th (Thursday) and ends February 16th (Sunday). All
perspective students will be interviewed by a panel consisting of Global Union
officers and a selected advisor. Once all interviews are completed, candidates
will be advised by phone and correspondence of their status. We hope to have
all our delegates selected by early December.

Qualifications for selection are as follows:
· Students must be able to communicate clearly and concisely
· Must be able to work well in a team environment
· Have knowledge and have the willingness to learn about current events
and global issues
· Like working with people of different cultures and racial backgrounds

Students who attend this event every year find the HNMUN Conference to be
rewarding, educational and fun. Monroe Community College was recognized as one
of the best presenters among 67 four year colleges and 10 two year colleges. If
you know of any students in your classes or whom you interact with that may be
good candidates, please encourage them to sign up. Candidates should sign up
at my office. Attached is a flyer for distribution in your class. Please
contact me for more information.
