Quality Matters: Inter-Institutional Quality Assurance in Online Learning - ITC Audioconference

MCC will host the ITC audioconference entitled "Quality Matters: Inter-Institutional Quality Assurance in Online Learning" scheduled for Tuesday, April 18 from 2:00-3:00 in the Board Lounge. Presenters Dr. Christina Sax, Assistant Dean at University of Maryland University College, and Mary Wells, Director of Distance Learning at Prince Georges Community College, will discuss a statewide approach to quality assurance in online courses, which is characterized by an inter-institutional peer course review process, and instructional design support to implement quality improvement recommendations arising from the review process. The project, "Quality Matters," is funded by a FIPSE grant to MarylandOnline, a consortium of 19 public and private, community colleges and senior institutions in the state of Maryland. Sax and Wells will provide and discuss the rubric they created for the peer course review process which is based on national standards of best practice and research literature. They will also share lessons learned to date, including the impact of grant activities on faculty professional development and course design, and the heretofore unfulfilled need for an instructional designers professional association.
