Health Care News

As we all wrestle with the changes that the COVID-19 pandemic has made to our day to day lives, it is important to remember that the College is here to support you and to help you and your families navigate this new normal with the least amount of disruption. To that end, Human Resources wanted to bring various opportunities to your attention.

Special Open Enrollment Period for Health Insurance

In recognition of some of the financial difficulties facing employees and their families, Excellus is allowing employers to provide their employees with a special open enrollment period to review and revise the medical care coverage in which they are currently enrolled. Under normal circumstances, employees are given one opportunity in November to select the health insurance plan that they want to enroll in for the next calendar year; changes may not be made to this enrollment choice without a qualifying event.

This new special open enrollment period is available until May 29, 2020. During this period, you may elect to participate in a lower cost plan. In addition, full-time employees who waived MCC medical coverage for 2020 and now want medical insurance are able to sign up for a medical plan through the College during this special Open Enrollment. Should you wish to make a change in plan or enroll, please see the instructions on the attached form. All special enrollment elections must be received by May 29, 2020.

If you are not sure which medical plan you are enrolled in, please review your pay stub. Rates and plan information can be found in the Human Resources channel under Employee Essentials in myMCC or by copying the following link to your web browser.

Please note that this special open enrollment period applies only to medical coverage.

Employee Assistance Program

When our daily routines change and we are required to participate in social distancing, many of us feel unsettled and adrift from our colleagues and social support groups. This can lead to anger, depression, confusion, and a whole host of other negative feelings. The hardest part of this change is the uncertainty of the duration of this new arrangement of working and learning from a distance. Sometimes, it helps to talk to others about your feelings and your concerns.

The College sponsors an Employee Assistance Program through Lincoln Financial that is called Employee Connect. You can reach out to them via telephone at (888) 628-4824 to receive assistance with any difficulties that you are experiencing. Information regarding the services available through Employee Connect can be found here: M:\Offices\President\Human Resources\EAP MCC\Employee Assistance Program (EAP) Lincoln Financial.pdf

Excellus Resources

In addition to the Employee Assistance Program, Excellus also provides supports and resources to our employees to help overcome any difficulties or concerns that they are having as a result of this situation. The "Ask a Nurse" program at Excellus can point you in the right direction for answers to any questions or concerns that you may have. The "Ask a Nurse" program can be reached at (800) 348-9786. Excellus also has a WellFrame app that you can access by logging into their website at https://www.excellusbcbs.com.

If you have any questions regarding the Special Enrollment Period or the support services available to you, please do not hesitate to reach out to Human Resources.
