AmeriCorps receives $1.24 million grant for 2002-2003


Rochester AmeriCorps, located at Monroe Community College's Damon City Campus,
228 East Main Street, has received a grant of $1.24 million for operating
expenses for 2002-2003.

The federal grant was delivered through the New York State Office of National
and Community Service. This year, Rochester AmeriCorps has 100 members placed
full-time in the community to provide services through local organizations. The
program focuses on youth development, prevention and intervention issues. Other
focus areas include violence prevention, crime reduction and quality of life
issues for area residents.

Rochester AmeriCorps began in 1994 and has provided over 1 million hours of
