presents

The Elephant in the Room,
An evening with Tim Wise

Please join us in a candid presentation on racism and privilege in America presented by one of the country’s leading Anti-Racist writers and activists.  Mr. Wise has provided anti-racism training to teachers nationwide, and has conducted trainings with physicians and medical industry professionals on how to combat racial inequities in health care. He has also trained corporate government, entertainment, military and law enforcement officials on methods for dismantling racism in their institutions, and has served as a consultant for plaintiff’s attorneys in federal discrimination cases in New York and Washington State.

In summer 2005, Wise served as an adjunct faculty member at the Smith College School for Social Work, in Northampton, Massachusetts, where he co-taught a Master’s level class on Racism in the U.S. In 2001, Wise trained journalists to help eliminate racial bias in reporting, as a visiting faculty-in-residence at the Poynter Institute in St. Petersburg, Florida. Tim Wise has been hailed as one of the most brilliant, articulate and courageous critics of privilege in the nation."

Quotes:  “Tim Wise is one of the most brilliant, articulate and courageous critics of privilege in the nation.  His considerable rhetorical skills, his fluid literary gifts and his relentless search for the truth make him a critical ally in the fight against racism and a true soldier in the war for social justice.  His writing and thinking constitute a bulwark of common sense, and uncommon wisdom, on the subject of race, politics and culture.  His a national treasure.”  Michael Eric Dyson, University Professor, Georgetown University

“Tim challenged and invigorated our students….. You could hear a pin drop…..Never have I seen a speaker keep 400 students so captivated…He was awesome!”  Darren Ford, Multicultural Coordinator, The McDonough School, Maryland

“One of the most brilliant voices of our time.”  Molefi Kete Asante, Professor of African American Studies, Temple University
