Holly Wheeler and Eric Wheeler Present at League For Innovation Conference

On March 1, 2021, Holly Wheeler, Professor, English and Philosophy and Eric Wheeler, Assistant Director, Veteran Services presented at the virtual Innovations Conference. Please see the presentation title and description below.

Creating Professional Development to Support Military-Affiliated Students

Military-affiliated students are an at-risk student population. Unfortunately, most college faculty and staff lack the cultural competencies to understand the experiences of these students and their often difficult transition to higher education. Institutions require robust professional development programs to bridge this gap. Monroe Community College was awarded an Innovation of the Year Award by the League for their Supporting Transitioning and Returning Service members (STARS) project, a workshop series designed to assist the campus community in support of this student population and their unique needs. This conference presentation will provide the six-workshop template that can be customized to fit the needs of your campus population, explain the logistics of creating your own version, address best practices, and answer questions you have about the program.
