Laptop Distribution Garnered Media Coverage
By the end of this week, more than 200 MCC students with the highest needs will have received laptops at no cost so that they continue their studies and ultimately graduate. Laptops are provided to the students through philanthropic support to the MCC Foundation and with assistance from SUNY.
Earlier in March, over 500 MCC students responded to an MCC survey about their technology needs. Some of the issues identified most frequently include laptop needs and WiFi access. Assistance was prioritized for students demonstrating a need based on their financial aid records.
Distribution of the laptops on the Brighton Campus began Thursday, March 26, on a staggered schedule to reinforce social distancing.
Spectrum News-Rochester, Rochester Business Journal, Channel 13 (WHAM-TV) and Channel 10 (WHEC-TV) covered this MCC project.

Phil Oettinger, assistant director for Academic Learning Environments, is shown handing out equipment to students in media coverage. Phil represents one of the many staff members who played a key role in this project and are working tirelessly to make sure faculty and staff have the access to technology to do the work of supporting student success.
Kudos also to Elizabeth Baxter and Tony Perez for the coordinated logistical effort and to John Delate for adeptly handling media interviews.
