Voter Rights and Voter Suppression

THE HISTORY OF THE RIGHT TO VOTE IN THE U.S. AND EFFORTS TO UNDERMINE IT

2020 marks the 100th anniversary of the ratification of the 19th Amendment. This anniversary reminds us that expanding the right to vote in the U.S. was not an easy process. Achieving universal suffrage was an incremental process that required incredible dedication and sacrifice by many talented leaders. Today, the integrity of U.S. elections depends on all eligible Americans being able to cast a counted ballot. Yet many Americans feel disenfranchised; that their voice at the ballot box has been weakened.

On Tuesday, September 22, 12:30-1:30 p.m., please join Lou Andolino, Professor of Political Science, Nayda-Pares Kane, Professor of Sociology, and Joe Scanlon, Professor of Political Science, for a discussion on the history of voting in the U.S. Learn about the expansion of voting rights and the efforts, both past and present, to undermine the expansion of this critical democratic-right.

What is going on today to undermine voting rights?

What are the facts and what is fake news?

Why is it important to vote?

Please join us for this important discussion.
