MCC's Patrick Bates, director, purchasing, and Peggy VanKirk, director, Work and Learn Center, have graduated from the New York Leadership Academy.
The year-long program, created in conjunction with the Chair Academy in Mesa, Ariz. and the Institute for Community College Development at Cornell University, is designed to advance organizational leadership skills and provide succession planning for leaders in community colleges.
During the program, Bates and VanKirk studied the role of an organizational leader, implications of different work styles, strategic planning, conflict management, team building, and diversity. Individual colleges nominate participants for the program.
