College Civility Week (October 18 - 22, 2010)

Many events are planned for the upcoming College Civility Week, to be held October 18-22.

Highlighting this week of activities will be a very special visit by the noted author of several books and articles on civility, Dr. P.M. Forni of Johns Hopkins University; Dr, Forni is also the founder of the Civility Project.

On Tuesday, October 19, from 2:00 – 3:30 p.m. in Monroe A and B of the R. Thomas Flynn Campus Center, Dr. Forni will present a workshop that focuses on strategies on handling rude behavior in the classroom, hallways, etc. Dr. Forni will then appear at 7:00 p.m. in the Theatre for a college and community-wide presentation. Please RSVP to "mailto:mkarlnoski@monroecc.edu"

On Wednesday, October 20, at noon in 4-151, Dr. Forni will bring his civility dialogue to the Damon City Campus.

Tickets are required; please visit
www.monroecctickets.com to reserve your seat.

In conjunction with MCC’s Visiting Scholar Program featuring Dr. P.M. Forni’s visit on October 19 and 20, President Kress and Dr. Salvador are encouraging the MCC community to participate in an all-college read on the topic of civility.  Using Dr. Forni’s book, Choosing Civility, it is their hope to encourage and further the college discussion on creating a culture of courtesy and civility in support of learning.

The Office of Student Life and Leadership Development (3-126) and the Damon Campus Center (5-251) will be handing out these free books to faculty and staff when they present their MCC ID. Get your book today and start the All College Read as we near College Civility Week, and reserve your tickets today for one of Dr. Forni’s presentations.
