Model United Nations Award Winning Team

Model United Nations Program a Success

I am happy to announce that the MCC Model United Nations Team has won its second “Honorable Mention Award” for 2009 at the National Collegiate Conference held in New York City last week.  Being a fairly young program at MCC, this is the third award bestowed on our college.  MCC Model UN team won the “Honorable Mention” award in 2007, the “Distinguished Delegation” award in 2008 and now, once again, they received the “Honorable Mention” award for 2009.  Besides these prestigious awards, two of our students (Charles Green and Livette Otero) were selected to chair two vital committees at this year’s conference (the Security Council and the United Nations Development Fund for Women Committee).

The National Collegiate Conference Association (NCCA) offers experiential learning opportunities that provide participants with the insights needed to become better global citizens and the next generation of international leaders.  It was incorporated in 1968 as a nonprofit, educational corporation of the United States. The NCCA is also a recognized Non-Governmental Organization associated with the United Nations Department of Public Information.

NCCA programs offer a diverse group of informed participants a forum for discussing global concerns in a context that closely parallels the "real world." Students and faculty from five continents work feverishly to propose resolutions addressing such issues as regional conflicts, peacekeeping, human rights, women and children, economic and social development, and the environment. The National Model United Nations (NMUN) programs provide students with a better understanding of the inner working of the United Nations as they build skills in diplomacy and collaboration.

NMUN brings more than 4,000 delegates from five continents to New York City annually. This conference, the world's largest, college-level Model United Nations includes more than 20 committees as well as a Security Council for unaffiliated delegates. Monroe Community College recognizes and honors this year’s delegates:
