MCC Department of Public Safety Seeks Accreditation, Public Comment Welcomed

The Department of Public Safety at Monroe Community College (MCC) is seeking accredited status from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) within their Campus Security Accreditation program. To achieve this goal, the Department must prove compliance with 138 professional standards, covering integral topics including policies and procedures, organizational management, law enforcement operations, and support services.

As part of this assessment, CALEA has contracted with two law enforcement professionals to speak with personnel from Public Safety as well as the MCC community in an effort to verify compliance. The team members assessing MCC's Department of Public Safety are Deputy Chief Michael Rein of the Rutgers University Police Department (N.J.) and Deborah Morgan, the Executive Director for the New River Valley (Va.) Alcohol Safety Action Program. These individuals will conduct remote interviews with faculty and staff on June 1 and 2, 2020.

Public comments on MCC Public Safety operations and their ability to comply with CALEA standards are both requested and desired. The assessment team will hold a public call-in session on Tuesday, June 2, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. Anyone wishing to speak with the assessment team may call (585) 292-8365 during that time. Please limit comments to 5 minutes.

Anyone wishing to submit written comments concerning MCC's Public Safety Department's suitability for accreditation may e-mail the team at michael.rein@rutgers.edu. Comments can also be sent directly to The Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA) at 13575 Heathcote Boulevard, Suite 320, Gainesville, VA 20155. If you have questions regarding specific applicable CALEA standards, contact MCC Public Safety Assistant Chief Kevin A., Hall at khall006@monroecc.edu or (585) 292-2904.
