Dean Michael Jacobs invited to speak at the University of British Columbia

Dean Michael Jacobs has been invited to speak at the University of British Columbia's virtual forum on Community engagement and the teaching-intensive institution, to take place on Wednesday, December 2nd. The forum, which is geared towards UBC's humanities and social sciences graduate students, will explore the importance of public humanities at teaching-and-learning colleges, positioning the practice as a viable form of scholarship. Dr. Jacobs will also present in two sessions at the January 2021 Modern Language Association Convention; in addition to leading a panel focused on imbuing humanities doctoral education "with values that serve broader publics," he will join the distinguished philosopher and gender theorist, Judith Butler, and National Endowment for the Humanities Chair, Jon Parrish Peede, on a roundtable focused on how the humanities have "responded to the cultural and epidemiological challenges posed by" COVID-19.
