Two AHPS Professors Selected as Community College Internationalization Fellows!

Congratulations to Dr. Nayda Pares-Kane--Chair of Anthropology, History, Political Science, Sociology--and Dr. William Drumright--Associate Professor of History--on being selected to Cornell University's 2020 Community College Internationalization Fellowship program!

As part of her project for Cornell's Latin American Studies Program, Dr. Pares-Kane will develop the curriculum of her Introduction to Global Studies course to include the exploration of how indigenous communities in Mexico and Costa Rica have resisted the negative and often unintended consequences of globalization, thus highlighting the truly interdependent nature of global cooperation.

As an Asian Studies Fellow, Dr. Drumright will explore the rise of Japan and South Korea as military and diplomatic linchpins for the United States during the Cold War. More specifically, he will investigate the intersections and consequences of critical events, from the atomic attacks on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, through the Korean War and Olympic Games in Tokyo (1964), Sapporo (1972), and Seoul (1988), to establish the two nations' interconnected emergences as political and economic powers during the latter half of the twentieth century.

The Division of Humanities and Social Sciences looks forward to Dr. Pares-Kane's and Dr. Drumright's important work in these fields.
