White House Summit on Community Colleges

MCC had a dual presence at yesterday’s White House Summit on Community Colleges. Not only was MCC student Ted Carey one of only about 100 individuals invited to participate in the summit, but Dr. Jill Biden – community college professor, wife of Vice President Joe Biden, and convener of the summit – quoted our very own Janet Ekis, MCC Class of 1991 and specialist in the College and Community Relations Office, in an essay, (https://www.sacbee.com/2010/10/05/3080273/community-colleges-americas-gateway.html), that appeared in newspapers across the country:

“They are students like Janet Ekis, from Monroe Community College in Rochester, N.Y., who wrote to me through www.WhiteHouse.gov/CommunityCollege: 'Community college didn't just change my life - it gave me my life.' ”

Dr. Biden also referenced Janet’s story in her comments at the opening of the summit.

Locally, 10 NBC and YNN interviewed Janet about her community college experience and her brush with the Second Lady.

Congratulations, Janet, and thank you for helping us tell the MCC story!
