MCC Economic and Workforce Development Center launches Certified Nurse Assistant Program

On March 4, 2019, the Economic and Workforce Development Center launched a new Certified Nursing Assistant Training and Development program. This new program was developed, filled, and launched in 2 1/2 months in response to the strong need for these workers in the local economy.

The pilot cohort includes 18 participants, a class photo is attached, all of which were sponsored by the Monroe County LadderzUP program and their employer. Nine participants are from St. John's Senior Living, and nine are from the Friendly Home. Students will receive a wage increase from their employer upon completion of the program and certification. A second cohort is planned for April 1, 2019 and will be sponsored by the New York Inspire program.

Additionally, an Advanced Certified Nursing Assistant professional development program is expected to launch in late April. Fifteen to twenty participants are expected to enroll, all of which are current Certified Nursing Assistants. Upon completion of the program, students will become mentors at their place of employment and will receive a wage increase. Participating employers are still being confirmed.

The Economic and Workforce Development Center is planning an additional 6-8 cohorts of this new Certified Nurse Assistant Training by the end of this academic year. For more information, please contact the Economic and Workforce Development Center at extension 6004.
