Engineering Technologies Holds Optics Strategy Session


Dianna Phillips, Dean of Technical Education, along with the Engineering Technologies faculty, hosted an Optics Strategic Planning Session on Friday, May 9, in the Flynn Campus Center Brighton Room. 

Several local Optics Industries were represented at the meeting:  Mr. Christopher Cotton (ASE Optics), Mr. Rick Nasca (Corning Tropel),  Mr. Steven DeSmitt, Mr. Daniel McCullough, Mr. James Crittenden (ITT SSD Precision Optics), Mr. Jim VanKouwenberg (Optimax), Mr. James Sydor (Sydor Optics), and Mr. Paul Tolley (Syntec Optics).    Also in attendance were Mr. James Zavislan (University of Rochester Institute of Optics), Mr. John Lisak (Monroe BOCES 1), Ms. Pina Buonomo (Monroe High School), Mr. Steve Jacobs (University of Rochester Lab for Laser Energetics, James Winston and Ross Micali from Workforce Development.  The facilitator for the session was Ms. Megan Shay, Managing Partner with Meaning/Design/Structure, LLC.

The purpose of the two-hour session was to hear directly from industry what their technician-level skill sets and workforce needs are now, and will be in the near future.
