Encourage your students to take a course that gets them out in the community!

In the Spring semester 2011 there are three different opportunities to participate in SVL 101, a course that focuses on civic engagement and community service.  Each SVL-101 being offered has a specific, themed-focus area (education, urban neighborhoods, and general community service).  In each course the student will spend 135 hours of service at a placement of their choosing.

This is not only a great wayfor your students to receive academic credit while getting involved in the community, but also to develop career goals and gain valuable, real-world experience in something they are directly interested in.

Upon completing the course with a grade of 2.0 or above (a C+ or higher), 135 hours go directly on a student's official transcript.  Something that would look especially good on a resume or a transfer college application.  ALSO, for those who qualify for financial aid there is an opportunity to receive Federal Work Study money for service hours.

To register, direct your students to find the course that most suits his or her interest in Banner and add it to their schedule for Spring 2011.   For more information come visit the Center for Service-Learning on the Damon City Campus room 4-020, or check the attached flier.

This is a great opportunity, don’t miss out!
