In the Spring semester 2011 there are three different opportunities to participate in SVL 101, a course that focuses on civic engagement and community service. Each SVL-101 being offered has a specific, themed-focus area (education, urban neighborhoods, and general community service). In each course the student will spend 135 hours of service at a placement of their choosing.
This is not only a great wayfor your students to receive academic credit while getting involved in the community, but also to develop career goals and gain valuable, real-world experience in something they are directly interested in.
Upon completing the course with a grade of 2.0 or above (a C+ or higher), 135 hours go directly on a student's official transcript. Something that would look especially good on a resume or a transfer college application. ALSO, for those who qualify for financial aid there is an opportunity to receive Federal Work Study money for service hours.
