Last Chance for Input to MCC's Tobacco-Free Policy

On June 12, 2012, the State University of New York Board of Trustees passed a resolution requiring 100 percent tobacco-free environments for all its campuses. MCC’s Tobacco-Free Committee has been doing the work required to comply in providing a safer and healthier learning and working environment for all members of the college community.

This is the last chance for members of the college community to offer their input. Attached you will find the policy draft. Anyone wishing to comment on the document can submit their remarks for consideration by Monday, October 14, 2013 to: Tobacco-Free Committee Chair Dolores Pasto-Ziobro at: <mailto:dpastoziobro@monroecc.edu>.

We will present the policy for board approval before the end of the year with voluntary compliance targeted for September 2014 and full implementation to occur at the start in January 2015.

Policy implementation will place a special burden on those who choose to continue to smoke. Therefore, MCC will make every effort to assist and support those who wish to cease smoking. Information on stop smoking programs is available through the Human Resources Office and the Student Health Center. A list of additional resources is available on the MCC website at: <https://www.monroecc.edu/depts/pstd/tobaccofree.htm>.

This change will not be easy. A smooth transition will require the cooperation of everyone in the college community. We thank you for supporting MCC’s commitment to providing a healthy and environmentally safe campus to live, work and learn.
