Students from MCC’s Science & Technology Entry Program (STEP) travelled to Albany, NY to participate in the annual STEP Statewide Student Conference at the end of March. The Conference, “STEP: Moving from Excellence to Eminence,” featured a student research competition, guest speakers, skill building seminars, and a college fair.
Chyron Brown-Wallace, a 7th grade student at East Irondequoit Middle School, and Duwayne Harding, a 7th grade student at Wilson Foundation Academy, presented their research on sport glove science. The project looked at relationships between glove quality and performance in a variety of conditions. This project marks the beginning of the path towards careers in engineering and science for Brown-Wallace and Harding.
STEP is a pre-collegiate program that aims to support and encourage 7th – 12th grade students from historically underrepresented groups to pursue college and careers in science, technology, mathematics, health-related fields, and the New York State licensed professions.
