Michael McDonough, Provost and Vice President, Academic Services, and Valarie Avalone, Director of Planning, were co-presenters at the 2013 MSCHE Annual Conference in Philadelphia last week. The title of the presentation was “A New Vision for the Standards: A Roadmap for Student Success.”
Their presentation focused on using the standards for accreditation in a different way: Do the standards provide a map for institutions to build a vital culture of student success, reshaping our colleges and promoting the core values of student success and completion? Can the standards support a distinct student pathway, a robust framework for both the accreditation practitioner and the traditional academic? The lens of completion moves the standards from discrete, isolated islands of excellence to a provocative and inclusive vision of the intentional college.
