Angelique Stevens Witnesses MCC Alumnus, Village Build a New Well in Sudan

Angelique Stevens, instructor of English and assistant director of the Holocaust Genocide Studies Project, returned from Sudan on March 2 with amazing stories of human triumphs over extreme adversity. She joined MCC alumnus Salva Dut, founder of Water for Sudan, a filmmaker and an Associated Press photographer to witness a southern Sudanese village build a fresh water well—forever changing the future of the village residents who previously walked eight hours each day to get water.

In recognition of the fundraising efforts of MCC student leaders, the next well Dut builds in Sudan will be dedicated to Monroe Community College.

Upon her return, Stevens shared stories of her two-week journey with student leaders of the Holocaust Genocide Studies Project and patrons of the Central Library of Rochester and Monroe County. She plans to share her story and photographs with the MCC college community later this semester.
