MCC Scheduling of Vaccine Appointments for Students Temporarily Paused

Out of an abundance of caution related to recent adverse events caused by the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine, and pending further federal and state guidance, Monroe Community College will temporarily pause scheduling of vaccine appointments for resident students, student-athletes and students who participate in in-person classes or services, effective immediately until further notice.

MCC is not a designated vaccine site. Vaccination appointments scheduled for students via MCC are fulfilled at the Dome Arena in Henrietta.

The small number of students who registered for a vaccine at MCC will receive the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine instead. This vaccine requires two shots, scheduled 21 days apart. Students’ appointments for their second shot will automatically be scheduled.

All appointments for Johnson & Johnson (J&J) vaccines at New York state mass vaccination sites throughout our community will be honored with other vaccines.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in a joint statement, “Right now, these adverse events appear to be extremely rare. … People who have received the J&J vaccine who develop severe headache, abdominal pain, leg pain, or shortness of breath within three weeks after vaccination should contact their health care provider.” Individuals who received the J&J vaccine more than a month ago are at very low risk to the reported adverse events.

MCC will update students, faculty, and staff as more information becomes available. Questions? Please contact us at covid19response@monroecc.edu.
