The Positive Impact of Mentoring

Abdul Bounds, former Rochester City School District student and 6-year participant in MCC’s Liberty Partnerships Program (LPP), has made a successful transition into college. He is a full-time student at the Damon City Campus, in large part due to his diligence and the support of MCC’s Susan Gunther (Director of LPP), Emeterio M. Otero (Executive Dean – DCC), and Anita Manuele (former LPP administrative assistant now working for the Executive Dean).

In additional to his East High School diploma, Abdul is shown with an award from the Metro Council for Teen Potential given to youth who have overcome challenges in pursuit of their goals. Despite many obstacles, Abdul persevered to graduate from high school and enroll at MCC, thanks in great part to active mentoring by Dr. Otero and Ms. Gunther. Since enrolling at MCC, Abdul has joined The Men of Excellence Club and is a participant in the Doorways to Success Program.

LPP is a NYS grant-funded initiative aimed at providing academic and personal support to RCSD students in order for them to graduate from high school and enter post-secondary education and the workforce as highly competent and compassionate young adults.
