The Sociology Film Series presents Tough Guise

In anticipation of anti-violence educator Jackson Katz’s presentations at MCC on April 30th, the Sociology Film Series presents his documentary Tough Guise: Violence, the Media and the Crisis in Masculinity (2000) on both the Damon City and Brighton Campuses, with discussions to follow.

This provocative film focuses on the many ways that U.S. culture encourages violent masculinity as a cultural norm, not as something deviant or exceptional.  Katz challenges viewers and all who care about preventing violence to look for solutions beyond the individual and towards systemic macrolevel cultural changes.

The DCC event will be on Wednesday, March 19, 2008 at 3:00pm in Room #4151.

The Brighton Campus event will be on Thursday, March 27, 2008 at 6:00pm in Room 5-100.

Both events are free and open to the public.  Campus-specific fliers are attached below with additional details.  Faculty and staff in all disciplines, please encourage student attendance!
