Wellness Matters:  October Wellness Days Coming Soon!

The MCC Wellness Team would like to announce October Wellness Days; a series of wellness activities for MCC Employees during the week of October 7, 2013.

Monday, October 7:   Dr. Timothy Malins will be presenting a Lunch and Learn Session on heart health.  Dr. Malins, MD, FACC, earned his MD degree from the University of Washington School of Medicine, Seattle, Washington. He completed his internship and residency in Internal Medicine as well as his fellowship in Cardiovascular Disease at the University of Rochester. He currently serves as a district 6 Councilor to the New York State Chapter of the American College of Cardiology and on the Board of the Greater Rochester American Heart Association. He is the Director of the Finger Lakes Branch of the Sands-Constellation Heart Institute which is part of Rochester General Hospital’s nationally recognized Heart Institute, a Cleveland Clinic heart surgery center. His current interests involve public relations and public education on cardiological issues. He has a bi-monthly cardiology series airing on the Rochester CBS and  FOX news stations.  This event will be held in the Empire Room from noon to 1:00 p.m.

Tuesday, October 8:  During the Flu Clinic in Monroe B from 1 to 4 p.m., we will have MCC Student Nurses available to take blood pressure readings for our employees, and there will be information available on what a healthy blood pressure range is.  Also during this time, Excellus Health & Wellness Consultant Cynthia Childs will be available to distribute tips and literature on health and wellness matters and give information about programs Excellus has to help employees live healthy lifestyles.

Healthy snacks and beverages will be offered, and we will also have a table set up by our Health and Physical Education Department with information about the programs and facilities we have at MCC to support wellness for MCC Employees.

Those who attend and take advantage of the offerings during this event will have an opportunity to put their name into a drawing for a Fitbit; a great little device that can track steps, distance, calories burned and active minutes, as well as progress toward your goals.  It also monitors your sleep and can wake you with a silent alarm.

Wednesday, October 9:  Last but not least, on Wednesday morning, October 9th, Donna Burke will lead the first “Walking Wednesday”, at 7:45 to 8:30 in the PAC track.  Come and join us and start your Wednesdays off on the right foot!

We encourage everyone to take advantage of the offerings available during October Wellness Days.
