Join MCC in the Heart Walk

A few weeks ago the leaders of Rochester Area Colleges were asked to participate in this year’s American Heart Association’s Heart Walk on April 29.

We were all supportive of such a worthy cause. But the full impact of the fundraising event didn’t hit me until just several days ago, when I got word that a close friend must undergo triple bypass. It’s amazing how many people are affected by heart disease and stroke. Think of your family and friends, your coworkers, members of your church, school, and other organizations in which you participate.

It seems like we all know someone or have heard about someone whose life is impacted by the nation’s number one killer. According to the Heart Association, over 71 milliion American adults have one or more types of cardiovascular disease. It is found to be the underlying cause of death in 37 percent of all deaths – that’s one in every 2.7 deaths in the United States in 2003 (the most recent statistics available).

The faculty, staff and students of MCC have a chance through the Heart Walk to help improve research, education and prevention. You can walk, sponsor a walker, buy a heart, create a fundraising event.

Watch for details in future Daily Tribune articles from our team captains. They are planning many fun activities and look forward to your participation! Please join me in making this year’s Heart Walk a huge success.
