Resource Committee Update

The Resource Committee is comprised of faculty and staff from the Downtown and Brighton campuses. This ever-expanding team (22 and counting) is dedicated to assisting the College in MCC's mission to overcome student food, housing, and transportation insecurities.

Among the various efforts by the committee for the 2018-2019 academic year are the following:

  • All College Days presentation
  • Faculty/Staff information forum
  • Trader Joe Tuesdays
  • Free Panera Fridays
  • Expanded DWIGHT (food pantries) collection sites to 3
  • DWIGHT donations from parking, library, faculty, staff, etc.
  • Expansion of Resource Committee to 22 members (including 4 faculty) and an additional 3 participants on sub-committees.
  • Faculty-led cooking workshops
  • Assisting Foundation on grant proposal
  • Creating a resource website
  • Published student service and academic service resource guide (see 2 attachments)
  • Working with COS faculty on communication of resource area
  • Collaboration with Food Link
  • Food Link grant
  • HOPE Conference attendance
  • Creation of new department at the Downtown campus: Office of Community Engagement and Resources (OCER), from five separate entities: Dreamkeepers, Single Stop, Wellness, DWIGHT, and Save for Success
  • In the process of hiring a new Assistant Director of Student Life who will oversee DWIGHT and COVE at the Brighton campus

The Resource Committee members will be presenting three information sessions this semester:

Wednesday, February 13* 12:00 - 1:00 pm BC Empire Room

Friday, February 15 12:00 - 1:00 pm DC Board Room 400

Thursday, February 28 12:00 - 1:00 pm BC Empire Room

*Faculty Senate Conversations

All faculty and staff are invited to these panel presentations to learn more about how each of us can assist students in this important non-academic developmental area.

As noted on the list above, the committee has created a Resource Guide that is attached. The two lists are extensive but not complete. There are other resources available for students on campus, so this guide only provides a partial listing. If you would like to add any resource to the list, please email us.

Many thanks to the entire MCC community for your countless efforts to help students overcome all insecurities they face.
