Mentors in Violence Prevention "Train the Trainers" Completed at the Damon City Campus

The 5th Mentors in Violence Prevention "Train the Trainers" Program (MVP-MCC) took place on November 7, 8 and 9, 2013 at Monroe Community College’s Damon City Campus.  Law & CRJ Professor, Joe Sturnick and Visual and Performing Arts Professor, Susan Bender were this semester’s lead trainers.  Trainees included MCC students and community members. We are proud to now have over 120 mentors in our communities who are educating others about social injustice and the gendered causes of most types of interpersonal violence.

MVP was founded in 1993 by leading anti-violence educator, Jackson Katz (
https://www.jacksonkatz.com/) and others at Northeastern University in Boston, MA.   The MVP Model is a gender violence, bullying, and school violence prevention approach that empowers individuals to take on leadership roles in our families, schools and communities.

MCC is one of just three colleges in the U.S. and the only community college with an MVP Program.  MVP is also utilized in all branches of the U.S.  military, professional, college and high school sports teams, NAASCAR and many other organizations.

A MVP-MCC “Train the Trainers” will be offered on March 20-21-22, 2014  If you are interested in attending the Spring training or would like additional information about the scholarship, please contact one of the MVP-MCC Leadership Team members:
