Passing of R. Gordon Eddy


The college community mourns the passing of retiree R. Gordon Eddy, 90, of Manlius (Onondaga County) on Nov. 30.

Mr. Eddy joined MCC in 1969 as associate professor in the Police Science Department. He was promoted to professor in 1975 and served as chair of the Criminal Justice Department for six years. During his 16 years at MCC, he was instrumental in instituting law enforcement programs and courses and transforming the department from a police science concentration to a comprehensive criminal justice orientation. He was recognized for his civic and professional achievements in the 1975 edition of Outstanding Educators of America. Upon his retirement from MCC in 1985, Mr. Eddy was granted the status of professor emeritus.

Prior to coming to MCC, he worked 28 years as a special agent with the FBI. He also taught courses at police academies throughout western New York before retiring in 1969. Mr. Eddy was a graduate of the University of Michigan.

Mr. Eddy was predeceased by his wife of 38 years, Janet Rogers Eddy; brother, Dr. John Eddy; father, Dr. Benjamin H. Eddy; and mother, Maude Earley Eddy. He is survived by his three sons, Donald (Becky) Eddy of Bloomington, Minn.; Douglas (Joanne) Eddy of Edenton, N.C.; Stuart (Adrienne) Eddy of Manlius, N.Y.; daughter, Linda (Frank) Interlichia of Brighton; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Olive “Carlie” Eddy of Canandaigua; and two nieces and three nephews.
