Amy Tan: Diversity Series Speaker

The Diversity Council, in collaboration with the Visiting Scholars Program, the ENG/PHL department, and Phi Theta Kappa and Student Association, is pleased to announce gifted writer and storyteller Amy Tan as the 4th Annual Alice Holloway Young, Ed. D Diversity Series speaker.  Please help welcome Ms. Tan on Wednesday, November 19th, 2008 at 7:00 PM, in the Stabins Physical Education Complex gymnasium, Building 10.

Ms. Tan will tell her story and will launch us into a year of telling our own stories. The Diversity Council plans will offer creative ways to share and to learn more about each other throughout the remainder of the year.

We will be guided by the college’s diversity statement which addresses this core value: “MCC is an academic community made up of individuals who reflect differences in color, culture, ethnicity, gender, nationality, physical ability, race, religion, sexual orientation, and skill.  As a community of global learners, we are proud to affirm and celebrate the rich diversity that exists among us. We believe acknowledging and celebrating our diversity is essential to maintaining academic freedom and inquiry.”
