MCC Daily Tribune

Media Rights and Responsibilities

From time to time, news media publish news and information with which readers, listeners, and viewers disagree. In a society that values a free press, we will sometimes encounter perspectives and portrayals that we find offensive or unfair, or with which we disagree; for those occasions, there exist channels for expressing alternate views. Responses that infringe on a free press are not acceptable.

The Student Press Law Center (<https://www.splc.org/article/2015/11/splc-college-student-media-model-guidelines>) offers sensible guidelines for college student media rights and responsibilities.

If information disseminated by MCC student media concerns you, I encourage you to reach out to the editor or station manager in a respectful and productive way. You can influence media portrayal by expressing your point of view and/or getting involved in student media.

If information disseminated by an external media outlet about MCC concerns you, I encourage you to reach out to the Marketing and Community Relations Department to discuss your concerns and options.
