Thank You for Helping MCC Go Purple to #ShineTheLight on Domestic Violence

On behalf of the Civility Committee and CAB, THANK YOU for helping MCC go purple last week to #ShineTheLight on Domestic Violence!

-          200 of you signed the “These Hands Don’t Hurt Pledge” (Your response was even greater than we anticipated and we actually ran out of pledge cards and #ShineTheLight t-shirts!);

-          You completely filled a 9’ x 12’ banner with your purple painted handprints;

-          You wore purple;

-          You shared photos using the #ShineTheLight hashtag;

-          You connected with our community partners - Willow Center for Domestic Violence, The Legal Aid Society, Resolve of Greater Rochester, and RESTORE Sexual Assault Services (One of our community partners commented that the participation level and support for this event at MCC exceeded what they have observed on any other college campus!);

-          You engaged in a presentation about healthy relationships; and

-          You shared your stories and the stories of your friends and loved ones.

Hopefully you had the chance to see the purple lights illuminating MCC entrance signs and the MCC sign on I-390.  Special thanks to the Facilities team for making it happen!

As Dr. Kress noted, “The message is simple but powerful: Together we can let victims and survivors know that they are not alone, share information about available resources, and work to eradicate domestic violence in our community.”  We sincerely thank you for your support of this event and we look forward to continuing to work together as an MCC community to #ShineTheLight on Domestic Violence.
