Governor Directs SUNY to Maximize Distance Learning to Reduce Spread of COVID-19, MCC to Remain Open

Yesterday, Governor Cuomo announced that New York's public colleges and universities, including MCC, are directed to maximize distance learning and decrease the number of in-person classes until further notice. As part of the SUNY system, MCC plans to fully comply with Governor Cuomo's directive as early as next week. MCC joins SUNY in helping reduce the density of people on campus in order to mitigate the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19).

As of March 12, there are no confirmed cases of COVID-19 at MCC; there is one confirmed case in Monroe County. The College will remain open during this temporary interruption of in-person classes. Services will continue to be provided until further notice.

We know our students and their families, faculty, staff, and community partners have many questions related to this statewide directive. MCC's task force is updating our response plan based on yesterday's developments and is moving forward in order to clearly and accurately respond to questions and ensure our students' educational needs and service expectations are fulfilled. Please note:

  • Students, visitors and others are welcomed at all MCC locations.
  • Following consultation with faculty and staff, coursework will be delivered through a variety of platforms, including services like Blackboard/SUNY Online, Zoom, conference calls, and other methods.
  • Large gatherings on campus will be addressed on a case-by-case basis and may be canceled or postponed.
  • At this time, Commencement is still scheduled for Saturday, May 30.

If you have questions or concerns regarding COVID-19, please call the state's health hotline at 1-888-364-3065.

Thank you for your flexibility and cooperation at this challenging time. College updates will continue to be available online.
