STEP students attend virtual college visits during spring break

During spring break, the Science and Technology Entry Program (STEP) facilitated three virtual college visits for STEP students and their families.

Representatives from Monroe Community College, Clarkson University, and Bowie State University joined us via Zoom to provide information about the admission process, program offerings, financial aid and scholarship opportunities, a virtual tour of their campus, and concluded with a Q&A panel featuring their respective staff and college students.

The STEP students and their families enjoyed each college virtual visit.  They shared that this experience was encouraging and thought-provoking.  One of the comments received from a parent about one of the visits was, "This was a really great presentation of your school. The campus highlight (hype) video made us feel like we were actually on the campus experiencing student life.”

Despite the disruptions experienced in our daily lives due to COVID-19, STEP continues to provide resources, guidance, and the support our students and their families need during this unprecedented time.  Kudos to the STEP staff!

The Science and Technology Entry Program (STEP) is a NYS legislative grant administered through the NYS Education Department.  Its purpose is to increase the number of historically underrepresented or economically disadvantaged students prepared to enter college, and improve their participation rate in mathematics, science, technology, health-related fields, and the licensed professions.
