TCC Announces New Faculty Inquiry Group for Spring 2016

The Teaching & Creativity Center is pleased to announce a special Faculty Inquiry Group (FIG), beginning March 2016.

Led by Professor Bill Drumright (History), this FIG will seek to refine the definition and application of the categories of Bloom’s Taxonomy, thus fostering ongoing analysis of the relationship of content delivery to cognitive skill development.

Group members will discuss and develop a framework whereby, using the language of Course Learning Outcomes as a guide, working definitions of such terms as analysis, synthesis, classification and categorization, etc., can be developed.  We will explore questions such as:

·         What constitutes efficacious analysis in a 100-level U.S. History course vis a vis a 200-level Biology course?

·         Cognitively speaking, what constitutes the important distinctions between 100-level and 200-level courses?

·         Cognitively speaking, what are/should be the gradations of levels of "fluency of skill" between 100-level and 200-level courses?

From this work intra- and inter-disciplinary conversations will, hopefully, lead to both the development and application of more refined measurements of cognitive skill efficacy.

Please contact Bill Drumright ("mailto:wdrumright@monroecc.edu") by Wednesday, March 16th to express interest in joining or with any questions.
