President's Wednesday Message

Each day seems to bring another story of an industry, government, or media figure whose ethical waverings have resulted in scandal, embarrassment, and lack of trust.  As educators, we might find that such incidents produce “teachable moments,” opportunities to learn from the mistakes of others.  However, we might also find that such incidents produce another reaction:  a head shaking, eye rolling “how-in-the-world-did-this-happen”?  The reality is that each of us shares in the responsibility for promoting a positive and ethical work culture. The college, together with the MCC Association, Inc., and the MCC Foundation, offers a confidential reporting system called the MCC Ethics Hotline to empower every employee to promote safety, security, and ethical behavior.  The hotline is a tool for employees and college associates to report confidentially any activities that may involve unethical, illegal, or inappropriate activities in violation of MCC’s policies, procedures, contractual obligations or the law.

The MCC Ethics Hotline is completely confidential, available all day, every day, and managed by an independent provider, EthicsPoint. If you have a concern that you would like to report, you can engage the system via the Web (<<
https://www.monroecc.ethicspoint.com>>) or phone (877) 237-8216.  While we hope that you will never have cause to contact the hotline, please know that all concerns are reviewed and investigated by an impartial committee led by our internal auditor, Dolores Pasto-Ziobro.

If you have any questions about the MCC Ethics Hotline, please contact Dolores at x2158 or <<
mailto:dpasto@monroecc.edu>>.

Next week, a short report from the Association of Community College Trustees meeting . . . what are the hot topics in community colleges across the country?
