Simmons, Avalone, and Jachim-Moore Present at SCUP 47

Heze Simmons, CFO and Vice President Administrative Services, Valarie Avalone, Director of Planning, and Darrell Jachim-Moore, Assistant Vice President Administrative Services presented “Integrated Planning and Resource Allocation to Meet Changing Fiscal Realities” to a large audience at the Society for College and University Planning’s International Conference in Chicago, Illinois last week.

The session discussed how, in the face of increasing competition and financial constraints, institutions must be systematic, creative and responsible in use of their resources.  MCC has a history of success in integrating its planning and budgeting processes. Integrated planning and resource allocation requires cultural and operational changes.  New realities now demand a more inclusive approach to institutional effectiveness.  The session focused on collaborative planning techniques and a framework for integration and implementation that could be replicated at institutions of any type.

In addition, Avalone convened the session, ”Pathways to Leadership for Aspiring Professionals in a Global Society” presented by a group from Manoa, Hawaii.  Avalone is currently serving her third year as Director At-Large with Expertise in Community Colleges on the SCUP Board and was part of the Governance Task Force charged with reviewing the society’s strategic governance and recommending changes to a comprehensive set of by-laws that will align SCUP’s resources and talent to better achieve its vision.  She is also considered a master teacher in SCUP’s Planning Institute.

Avalone and Jachim-Moore acted as session proposal reviewers for screening and selecting program content for the conference.

Jachim-Moore is in his second year serving on the SCUP Community College Advisory Group and was joined by Simmons in representing MCC in this capacity.

SCUP is an international society of 5,000 higher education planning professionals which provides knowledge and resources on integrated planning for higher education, with a particular focus on academic, strategic, fiscal, facilities and infrastructural planning.
