Don't Touch This!

Don’t Touch This!!!

Scenario:

A woman employed by the Registrar’s Office is entering grades for the fall semester. Her daughter is a student here and the grade roster for one of her daughter’s classes needs to be input. The woman asks a colleague to enter this grade roster so she is not ‘touching’ her daughter’s record. Is she afraid to see her daughter’s grade? Perhaps. Is she paranoid about involving herself in her daughter’s records? Not at all. Everyone in R&R knows that under NO circumstances should they touch the record of anyone in their family or even their own record if they are taking courses at MCC. This is strictly forbidden.

What you might not know is that this is strictly forbidden for ALL MCC employees, not just those in R&R. No MCC employee should touch either their record or a family member’s record in SIS or in Internet Native Banner (INB). At the end of the semester the records are audited (not by R&R staff) and they find people adding and dropping courses after the deadlines, overriding parking fees and tuition penalties and changing from credit to audit after the deadline date. This is like being caught in the IRS audit net. Not good.

Banner Self Service is designed for people to process their own registration transactions. Anything you can do on Banner Self Service is ‘allowed’ and will not be picked up in a record audit. SIS and INB are ‘for office use only’ and the behind the scenes power that ‘for office use only’ grants should NOT be used to make changes on your own or a family member’s record. These changes, with your name attached to them, will pop out in a record audit and lead to trouble.

If you have a complicated problem that cannot be fixed through Banner Self Service, please bring it to R&R for someone else to resolve. We make careers out of meddling in other people’s business!
