Quotes That Inspire

On the First Friday of October, it's once again my turn to share an inspiring quote from one of our College's most beloved leaders.

"I suppose I've always been a pioneer willing to face challenges. ... Any achievement or success I may have did not belong to me. Rather they were for those following me." - MCC Honorary Trustee and Board Chair Emerita Dr. Alice Holloway Young from Tearing Down Fences: The Life of Alice Holloway Young by Sally Parker.

This quote resonates with me because it reminds us of our purpose as educators and as leaders. It takes courage to be pioneer, to stand up for what you believe in, and blaze a trail to make the future better for those who follow.

The quote also reminds me of our many, courageous students--those who are the first in their families to attend college and student-parents who are role models for their children.

Our work and achievements are for those who seek access and opportunity through higher education. Our work also ensures MCC remains a champion of equity, opportunity, innovation, and excellence within our community.

Thank you for facing these challenging times with me and for your good work. I hope you will be able to join us at our next MCC Town Hall on Friday, October 16.

Is there a quote that inspires you as an educator and leader? If so, submit it along with a brief narrative about why the quote resonates for you to PresOffice@monroecc.edu. "Quotes That Inspire" are shared with colleagues on Fridays in the MCC Daily Tribune.
