Talk on Careers in Translation and Interpreting Held Successfully -- Schedule It for Your Classroom

On April 9, TRS Department instructor Maria Guzenko gave a presentation about careers in the language industry, such as translation and interpreting.

The talk touched upon the difference between translation and interpreting, job prospects for these occupations, and the skills you need to start a career. In addition, the audience discussed potential ethical issues that arise in the course of interpreting and tested their memory and note-taking skills. The event was attended by ESL and world language students and faculty interested in learning about career opportunities for their students.

The final section of the presentation featured Mr. Eric Candle, who talked about the Medical Interpreter training program offered through the MCC Economic & Workforce Development Center.

Faculty who teach ESL, world languages, or humanities are welcome to contact Maria Guzenko to have her come in and share this presentation in their classroom. The talk takes about 45 minutes. Maria can be reached at mguzenko@monroecc.edu.
