MCC:

Christine Casalinuovo-Adams, associate vice president for enrollment management, was interviewed about the Return to Complete program and was asked for her insights on the enrollment trends occurring at MCC and other U.S. community colleges. "This is probably the new normal," she said.

Launched in fall 2018, Return to Complete helps students who have been away from MCC for at least three years defer their debt to the college and re-enroll. By the end of the fall semester, about 150 former students have participated in the program.

OCC:

  • Started Weekend College in fall 2018. Classes are on Friday nights and Saturdays in four programs: criminal justice, business, alcohol and substance abuse counseling, and early childhood education. Students can earn an associate degree in 14 to 16 months. Fifty-four students are enrolled, with another 65 already signed up for fall 2019.

  • Launched a scholarship program paid for by the OCC Foundation. OCC is working with five area school districts to identify ninth-graders who show potential for college - but need a push. If the students meet certain goals throughout their high school years, they will receive a scholarship from the foundation. So far, 300 students are in the program.

MVCC:

Also offers a night program similar to OCC's Weekend College. About 24 students recently earned an associate degree in business.
