MCC Daily Tribune

Ensemble video posting turned off starting tomorrow!

Our content on the Ensemble videoserver is being moved to YuJa, our new videoserver. (Hey, at this point, what’s one more system change-over this summer, since we’re already switching Blackboard to Brightspace and our portal to CampusM!) In case you hadn’t heard, the Ensemble company was bought out by a competitor last year, and is going away. After a SUNY-wide search for a replacement, we decided on YuJa and are switching things over at a fast-pace to get them in place for this Fall Semester. As part of this change-over, we’ll be turning off the ability to post to our Ensemble videoserver starting tomorrow, Thursday, August 4th, so that we can copy the existing content without accidentally losing any content. Here’s what that will mean for you:

  • Links to existing content on Ensemble, as well as embed codes, will still work; eventually, once the full change-over happens, redirects will be set up on the Ensemble domain at SUNY ITEC so that these links and embed codes will automatically be directed to our YuJa domain: https://monroecc.video.yuja.com/
  • You will still be able to add and move around links and embeds to your existing content on Ensemble as you continue to develop your courses for Fall
  • You won’t be able to add new content to Ensemble, however here’s what we recommend instead:
    • Ideally, just wait until YuJa is up and running to put your new video content in your course, but keep on creating your video content as you were planning to, using tools such as recording to the Zoom Cloud, Camtasia, etc. We don’t have an exact timeline for this, but we think it could be a week or more and will keep you informed.
    • If you absolutely need the video content in your course before YuJa is fully up and running, you can still use links or embed codes to other video content sites such as YouTube, the Zoom Cloud, etc. You can also contact the Virtual Campus (virtualcampus@monroecc.edu) and we can help you with getting your video content in place, but again we ask for your patience unless it’s an absolute necessity, since we’re dealing with the Brightspace transition as well.

As the process is completed, you’ll have access to both a plug-in within Brightspace, similar to the Ensemble plug-in in Blackboard, and a full web interface. Both of these will work very similar to the way you use them now, and we think you’ll be excited by the new features that YuJa brings us. We’ll give you more info on these as the transition progresses, but if you’re excited to check them out, explore YuJa’s website: https://www.yuja.com/video-cms/
