College Community and Volunteers Make 15th Annual 5K Walk/Run for Scholarships a Success!

The MCC Foundation thanks the members of the 5K Planning Committee for their outstanding effort to reconnect students, faculty, staff, retirees, alumni and friends to MCC. Together, we held a very successful Homecoming walk/run raising $20,385 in support of student scholarships at MCC.  We are grateful to all our partners within the college community that made it possible.

Just over 500 walkers, runners, donors, sponsors and volunteers participated in the 5K either in-person or virtually.  Scholarships totaling $5,000 were awarded via Facebook Live to student winners:  Alexandra Campman, Anamaria Hernandez Socha, Elizabeth Hofer, Latasha Horne, Jordan Loewke, Callum O’Neil, Anne Pyrak, Casey St. Clair and Jessi Subik.

Highest Fundraisers were:  the Engineering Leadership Council and Travel Club for highest fundraising MCC club or organization and Owen’s Red Racers was the highest fundraising team.  Other award winners were:  Alexandra Campman and Khalid Babiker who won smile every mile and the Lap for Linda team won for best team spirit.

5K Walk/Run top finishers were:  Joshua Ward and Allie Sgromo, first place male and female finishers;  Kevin Sheehan and Jana McCutchan, overall alumni; Michael Laviani and Rachel Harvey-Patrick, overall students and Chris Kumar and Kate Robinson, overall employees.  Race results can be found here.

The day ended with an alumni art exhibit and closing reception in the Mercer Gallery featuring works by alumna and printmaker Claudia Mejia-Willett.

THANK YOU to everyone who supported and participated in the 5K Walk/Run for Scholarships.  Special thanks to our co-chairs, team captains and the following 5K Planning Committee members for lending their leadership support to make this combined virtual and in-person event a success:  Katie Ghidiu, Library; Kathy Gilman ’75, MCC Foundation; Matt Lawson, Admissions; Susan Noonan ’85, Academic Services; Demetrius Rhodes, Admissions; Courtney Sprague '02, Facilities; Dana Voldan Curry, Admissions and Tom Winslow, Campus Events.

Please save the date of Saturday, October 1, 2022, for MCC’s 16th Annual 5K Walk/Run for Scholarships.
