Spring 2020 Faculty Advisor Assignments

Last semester, through a cooperative effort between Student Services, Academic Services, and Computing & Information Technology Services, MCC rolled out a new process to seamlessly assign advisors to students. Although this assignment process is still a work in progress, we have seen improvements in students being assigned to the correct advisor for their pathway and in being able to identify and contact their assigned advisor.

Here are some things to know as we head into this semester's advising season:

  • New students have been assigned to an advisor in the Advisement Center since admission, based on their pathway.
  • Between February 3rd and 4th, the new process will assign students to faculty advisors based on their pathway and the availability of faculty advisors.
  • Any students who are no longer enrolled at the college will be removed from advising caseloads.
  • Assignments from last semester will be maintained, except for in cases where students have withdrawn or changed their pathway.
  • When students submit a request to change their major or pathway, their advisor is automatically updated. Most cases of advisors changing during the semester are for this reason, so that the student can access the best advisement for their goal.
  • We are currently working on a process to notify advisors of any changes to their caseload due to pathway changes, but in the meantime the best resource to see your up-to-date advisee caseload is through the Advising Dashboard.
  • Once assignments are made, departments can review them through Argos reports to ensure there are no concerns. The nudge team is currently planning to send students a message encouraging them to connect with their assigned advisor in late February. Advisors are welcome to connect with their advisees prior to that date.

If you have any questions about the process, please feel free to email schools@monroecc.edu
