CSTEP Students Present at the Statewide Conference—Win First Place!

The 22nd Annual CSTEP Statewide Conference was held on April 11-13, 2014 in Bolton Landing, NY.  Twelve CSTEP students from MCC attended and engaged in the professional development workshops, fairs and networking events offered at the conference.  Yaulashkaly Moran (LA04) served as the MCC CSTEP Ambassador.  Two CSTEP students competed in the research poster presentations.

Jermell Jackson (EN01) competed in the Engineering category and the title of his abstract was "Modeling the Projectile Motion of Foam Darts".  Jermell completed a research experience at Clarkson University during summer 2013.  Jermell will be enrolled in the Engineering Program at Clarkson University for fall 2014.

Andrea Erazo Espinoza (LA06) competed in the Psychology category.  The title of her abstract was "Transfer of Learning Across Dimensions in Children".  Andrea won first place with an almost perfect score in this category!  In addition, Andrea was awarded the highest honor given, the Henry Teoh Award for Outstanding Poster Presentation.  Andrea's poster presentation was awarded 1st place out of the 125 posters presented by 138 undergraduate and graduate students throughout New York State.  Andrea completed her research experience at Binghamton University during the summer 2013.

The Collegiate Science and Technology Entry Program (CSTEP) is funded by the New York State Education Department.  Its mission is to increase the numbers of individuals--who are historically under represented or economically disadvantaged--in the fields of science, technology, engineering, mathematics (STEM), licensed or health professions.  The MCC CSTEP has diligently and successfully engaged in this mission for about 27 years.
